A bit of a birthday bash brushed with a touch of Hollywood History

For any of you that watch the old films and enjoy timeless classics that never age, you’ll recall this young lady and her very talented family. She’s more beautiful than she was a decade ago, admits her faults without trying to hide them, and is an all around sweetheart in the films she’s in. I am not a big fan of chick flicks, but if this young lady is in the film, I’ll drop everything and watch!
I first watched her in a film that swept the movies in 1980, where she played the obnoxious little sister that had one hell of a set of lungs and could scream loud enough to make an alien wince. She went through her rocky stage as a teen, then emerged from her problems and continued with acting. She’s a star in one of my favorite films, Ever After, where she gave a delightful twist on the entire Cinderella story. That isn’t the only one though on my Barrymore hit list, though. I loved her in The Wedding Singer, Boys on the Side, Never Been Kissed, Fever Pitch, and Music and Lyrics. She exudes a sweetness that makes me smile, just as she did when she was that cute little darling in her first blockbuster film.
The exciting bit of history that I’m throwing in, she comes from a stellar family of actors, which include her grandfather John Barrymore , great-uncle Lionel Barrymore, and godfather Steven Spielberg.
To add to the bit of Hollywood royalty and history, she’s the great-granddaughter of actors Maurice Barrymore (1849-1905) and Georgiana Drew (1856-1893). Her great-uncle, Lionel (1878-1954), played the horrible Mr. Potter from the Christmas Classic “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Her grandfather, John (1882-1942) was a noted Shakespearean actor, and his sister Ethel (1879-1959) was a celebrated actress.
On Feb. 22, 1975, the beautiful and extremely talented, Drew Barrymore, who debuted in a starring role in “ET: The Extra-Terrestrial” was born.
